About us
Tira y afloja is made in Valladolid, Spain, at Soluciones Tecnológicas Algarsys, a software company. We make games for the whole class to play at once on the interactive whiteboard, in teams, from early years to Year 6.
How it started
It all started with one game: tug of war. Two teams solve sums on the same screen and every right answer pulls the rope their way. It went down so well that we kept making games with the same idea: the whole group takes part, you play with a finger on the board, and there is nothing to install. Today there are 78 games covering maths, language, English, logic, music and classic games.
How we make the games
- Sorted by year group, from early years to Year 6, and by difficulty within each year, following what is taught at each stage.
- With levels inside every game, so the same game works for the whole class and for extra support.
- Tested on a real board: a 65-inch touch panel like the ones in many classrooms, as well as on tablets, iPads and computers.
- English taught the way British schools teach it: phonics, sentences built while playing, and a recorded British voice.
- No adverts and no pupil accounts: we never ask for any details about the children.
- In five languages: Spanish, Catalan, English, French and German.
How it is funded
The first 5 games are free, with no sign-up. After that, a single payment of €9.99 unlocks every game for ever, on all your devices: no subscription and no adverts. Teachers use it free of charge at their school, with their school email address or the school’s official code.
Who is behind it
Behind Tira y afloja is the Algarsys team in Valladolid. We have been building software for more than twenty years, and we teach robotics and programming to primary school children.
