Shape and colour hunt
Shape and colour hunt is a visual discrimination game for the interactive whiteboard or a tablet. Each team sees a model on its half of the screen and a field of mixed shapes, and must tap every match before its time bar runs out. Both teams play at the same time.
What children practise
- Recognising and naming five shapes: circle, square, triangle, star and heart.
- Identifying five colours: red, blue, green, yellow and purple.
- Sorting by one attribute (shape or colour) and by two at once.
- Visual discrimination and selective attention among similar shapes.
- Impulse control: tapping a wrong shape freezes the team for a moment.

Early years, Easy
Search by shape, with few shapes and 30 seconds per round.
Early years, Medium
Search by colour, with more shapes and 30 seconds.
Early years, Hard
Search by shape and colour together, with 30 seconds.
Years 1-2
Shape and colour together, a full field and 20 seconds per round (15 on Hard).
How to play it in class
- Open the game and choose the year and difficulty; in the settings you can also pick what to search by, the time and the rounds to win.
- Decide whether two teams or one child (On my own) will play, and type the names.
- Each team looks at its model and taps every matching shape. A wrong tap freezes its half for a moment.
- Finding them all before the time runs out wins the round. The first team to reach the rounds needed wins the game.

In teams, at the same time
The screen splits in two and each team plays on its own half at the same time.
For one player
One child plays on the whole screen at their own pace: on the whiteboard, a computer or a tablet.
Frequently asked questions
Is reading needed?
No. The model is drawn at the top of each half: the shape, a splash of colour or the coloured shape. The written instruction only helps those who already read.
What happens after a wrong tap?
A warning appears and that half is frozen for a second and a half. It rewards looking carefully before tapping.
Can I give more time?
Yes. In the settings you can set 15, 20 or 30 seconds per round and 3, 5 or 8 rounds to win.
Is it free?

Do I need to install anything?
No. It opens in the browser of the interactive whiteboard, panel, computer, tablet or iPad. Once loaded, it also works offline.
