Make ten

An educational number bonds game for the interactive whiteboard. Each team gets the same grid of numbers from 1 to 9. Tap two that are the same or add up to 10, depending on the rule, and the pair explodes. They only count if they touch, diagonals included, or if there are only empty squares between them in reading order.

What children practise

Levels and settings

Y1

Pairs of matching numbers, with a help option that lights up valid squares in green.

Y2-Y3

Pairs that add up to 10, such as 6 and 4. The help stays on in Y2, not in Y3.

Y4-Y6

Both rules at once: matching or adding up to 10, without help.

Difficulty

Easy: 3 rows and 6 pairs to win. Medium and Hard: 4 or 5 rows and 10 pairs.

Clear the board

A goal you can pick in the settings: the first team to empty its board wins.

How to play it in class

  1. Open the game and choose the year group and difficulty: the rule and board size are set for you.
  2. Both teams get the same board, each on their own half. The rule is always written underneath.
  3. Tap a number and then its partner. If the pair works, it explodes; if not, a message explains why. Empty rows disappear.
  4. When no moves are left, the partners of the remaining numbers drop in by themselves. You can also press More numbers.
  5. The first team to reach the target number of pairs, or to clear its board, wins.

Ways to play

In teams, at the same time

The screen splits in two and each team plays on its own half at the same time.

For one player

One child plays on the whole screen at their own pace: on the whiteboard, a computer or a tablet.

Frequently asked questions

Why can two numbers that go together not always be matched?

They must touch, diagonals included, or have only empty squares between them in reading order. Otherwise the game says the pair is right but too far apart.

What happens if there are no pairs left?

The game adds the partners of the remaining numbers by itself, so there is always a move.

Is there a mode with matching numbers only?

Yes. It is the Y1 rule, and you can choose Same only in the settings.

Is it free?

You can play 5 free games without signing up. After that, a one-off payment of €9.99 unlocks all 78 games for ever, on all your devices. There is no subscription.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It opens in the browser of the interactive whiteboard, panel, computer, tablet or iPad. Once loaded, it also works offline.
