The clock

An educational game for telling the time on the interactive whiteboard, with a large analogue clock: a thick blue hour hand and a thin red minute hand. There are two challenges. In Read the time, children look at the clock and choose the answer from four. In Set the time, they drag the hands with a finger to the time asked for.

What children practise

Levels and settings

Y1-Y2

O’clock and half past. On Easy, o’clock only; on Hard, quarters too.

Y3-Y4

Quarter past and quarter to. Reading and setting the time take turns.

Y5-Y6

Minutes in steps of 5, reading and setting the time. On Easy, quarters.

Easy, Medium or Hard

As well as the minutes, it sets the correct answers needed to win: 3, 5 or 8.

How to play it in class

  1. Open the game and choose the year group and difficulty, or pick the challenge (read, set or both in turn) and the minutes in the settings.
  2. Each team has its own clock on its half of the whiteboard, showing the same time.
  3. To read, look at the clock and tap the right time out of the four options.
  4. To set, drag the hands: grab the long hand near the edge and the short one near the centre. Letting go at the right time scores; you can also press Done.
  5. Each correct answer earns a point for the quicker team. The game ends when one team reaches 3, 5 or 8.

Ways to play

In teams, at the same time

The screen splits in two and each team plays on its own half at the same time.

For one player

One child plays on the whole screen at their own pace: on the whiteboard, a computer or a tablet.

Frequently asked questions

Can children practise reading the time only?

Yes. Choose the Read the time challenge in the settings. It is also the one used in Y1 and Y2.

How do the hands move on a whiteboard or tablet?

With a finger. The minute hand clicks to the chosen step, every 5 minutes or every quarter, so it is easy to land exactly on the time.

Is it a 12-hour clock?

Yes. Hours go from 1 to 12 and the answers are written in digits, such as 9:15.

Is it free?

You can play 5 free games without signing up. After that, a one-off payment of €9.99 unlocks all 78 games for ever, on all your devices. There is no subscription.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It opens in the browser of the interactive whiteboard, panel, computer, tablet or iPad. Once loaded, it also works offline.
