Silhouettes
Silhouettes is a geometric shape puzzle, in the style of a tangram, for the interactive whiteboard or a tablet. The shadow of a picture appears at the top (a house, a boat, a fish, a rocket...) with a tray of coloured pieces below. Children drag each piece into place, and a tap without moving turns it 90 degrees. When the picture is complete, it fills with colour and the voice names it.
What children practise
- Build pictures from a square, triangles, a rectangle and a parallelogram.
- Mental rotation: predict how a piece will look after a 90-degree turn.
- Tell apart triangles of the same shape in different sizes.
- Look at an outline and break it down into geometric shapes.
- Recognise a geometric shape even when it is turned.
- Plan and test ideas when only the outline is shown.
Levels and settings
Level 1
Two pieces, with the lines marked and already the right way round.
Level 2
Three pieces with the lines marked; one needs turning.
Level 3
Four pieces with the lines marked and several turns.
Level 4
Five pieces and only the outline.
Level 5
Six or seven pieces and only the outline.
Auto
Starts at 1 and goes up a level every two pictures.
How to play it in class
- Open the game and choose the year group and difficulty, or fix the level by hand. Decide on the voice and the points to win: 3, 5 or 8.
- In teams, each solves the same pictures on its own half; it can also be played solo.
- Drag each piece onto the shadow and tap it without moving to turn it. If it is close to its spot and the right way round, it snaps in.
- If it does not fit, it goes back to the tray and a hint says why. Each finished picture is a point and the first team to the target wins.

The screen splits in two and each team plays on its own half at the same time.
For one player
One child plays on the whole screen at their own pace: on the whiteboard, a computer or a tablet.

Does each picture have only one solution?
At levels 4 and 5, where only the outline shows, each picture can be filled in only one way with its pieces.
